Metaktik Receives One Million Euro Funding

Finnish company Metaktik, which began operations at the beginning of March, has secured 1 million euros in funding in its pre-seed round. Metaktik is bringing an exceptional antenna innovation to the market. The new patented metasurface invention enhances security and improves data collection on land, at sea, and in the air.

Recent crises and wars have shown that agile solutions are vital. With its expertise, Metaktik is entering the rapidly growing aerospace and defense markets with its versatile, industrially scalable invention.

Large Markets

The number of satellites and unmanned aerial vehicles is estimated to triple within the next five years, which will significantly increase the demand for lightweight and capable antenna solutions. The company estimates the applicable market to be worth over six billion euros. Metaktik's innovation is highly versatile as it can be used equally well as a communication or radar antenna in drones, ground vehicles, and satellites. Because the new metasurface material conforms to the shape of the platform, it is well-suited for objects whose radar visibility needs to be minimized.

Aiming for New Partnerships

Metaktik's journey began at Aalto University's Space Technology Laboratory in a Research to Business project funded by Business Finland. The invention was transferred to a spin-off company, where the one-million-euro investment will enable the start of business operations. The company is now seeking partners in the aerospace and defense industry to develop new, lightweight, and cost-effective communication and radar solutions.

"Space and defense are intertwined more strongly than ever before. Signal jamming and drones are everyday occurrences, even in Europe and our neighboring areas. We need European cutting-edge technology, and fortunately, Aalto is producing the right innovations for this time. Metaktik's metasurface antenna technology is exactly what the industry needs right now," says Tuukka Kuuramaa, CEO of Metaktik.

Strong Support from Investors

"Metaktik is a rare case where a scientific breakthrough simultaneously unlocks better performance, new applications, and lower manufacturing costs than existing solutions. The metasurface technology, developed out of research at Aalto University, is already primed for industrial production and addresses the needs of rapidly growing defense and security market. This is exactly the combination an investor looks for," states Paavo Räisänen, Partner at Maki.vc.
