Healthtech at Arctic 15

Healthtech field is our next area of focus for our booth at Arctic 15. These three healthtech teams all have started as research commercialize projects from Aalto University.

During Arctic 15, we are proudly showing our health tech startups who are all in the commercialization phase from Aalto University. During the conference, three startups: Hapekas Medical, Maculaser and XFold Imaging will be presenting their technologies at our booth. These teams have passed through from the services of Aalto Innovations Services to Aalto Startup Center’s hybrid accelerator.

Hapekas Medical

Hapekas Medical’s new generation invasive tissue oximeter gives real-time information about the condition (oxygenation) of the patient’s heart during open-heart operations and afterwards during the Intensive Care Unit treatment. Their sensor solution is unique as it gives accurate awareness of the organ’s condition without disturbing the workflow of the surgeon. There is no other viable solution in this space. Hapekas Medical from Aalto University is in the ending phase of a 2 year publicly funded research commercialization project. The team consist of four people including two MD surgeons and is looking for seed funding from medical device investors.

Maculaser

Novel Therapy for Age-related Macular Degeneration

Maculaser develops a novel medical technology for treatment of common eye-disease called AMD, whose treatment constitutes a major unmet need in medical field. It is the leading cause of blindness in the developed world, with total direct healthcare system cost of 200 billion euros annually.

Maculaser’s innovations allow clinicians to perform previously infeasible laser therapy and help millions of people to retain their vision. Maculaser started as a commercialization research project at Aalto University in the summer of 2018. Maculaser is a team of 5 people and they are currently looking for funding for clinical trials and building the commercial product.

Xfold Imaging

Xfold Imaging has the cutting edge nano technology to provide 100-fold signal enhancement for biomedical imaging applications. They do this by using customized nano-structured glass slides based on surface enhanced bio imaging (SEBI) technology. Xfold Imaging’s innovative solution enables the study of cellular structures and bio-molecules (fats, lipids, proteins, etc.) at nano-scale resolutions that were previously not possible. Xfold Imaging solutions have a massive potential for furthering excellence in biomedical research, early diagnosis, drug development, etc. Xfold Imaging is a spin-out of multidisciplinary team from Aalto University and University of Helsinki. The team consists of physicists, biologists, biomedical imaging scientists and business strategists. They are currently looking for funding.

This year at Arctic 15, Aalto Startup Center is focusing on three keys industries;
artificial intelligence, healthtech and manufacturing.
