Who are you and what do you do?

MilliScan: MilliScan is a university-based future deep-tech company re-inventing how security inspection is done. We are spinning out from the university at the end of 2023.

What kind of team do you have at the moment?

MilliScan: We are four members of the team at the moment:

  • Sazan (M.Sc.) has more than 5 years of experience working in the security sector in a startup. Sazan began as a product manager and then later led the sales and marketing efforts of a startup developing portable X-ray systems for the security sector.
  • Samu has over five years of experience in Terahertz and millimeter-wave imaging. As an imminent Ph.D. holder in the field, he has been recognized for his outstanding research, earning an award for his publication. His work explores an innovative approach to millimeter-wave imaging, employing hologram and deep neural networks to achieve exceptional imaging results.
  • Shanuka (M.Sc.) has multidisciplinary experience working in startups, electrical engineering, and in RF engineering research. With his background, the hardware development has taken a giant leap.
  • Jay (M.Sc) is our neural network expert. He has been working in startups developing software and neural networks.

What is your innovation?

MilliScan is making the world’s most convenient people and mail screening system for the security sector. Their novel AI-powered millimeter-wave imaging technology can detect concealed metal and non-metal objects such as alcohol bottles, explosives, plastic knives, and a large amount of powder. The technology does not emit harmful radiation like X-ray, it is simple and compact, and its price point allows the system to be deployed everywhere people and mail screening is needed.

What is your idea’s impact for society?

MilliScan: MilliScan helps societies stay safe and helps people feel secure. By being able to detect both metal and non-metal items under clothing, as well as liquids and powders in envelopes and small boxes, MilliScan’s solution can help identify potential weapons, explosives, and dangerous substances that harm societies. It can also prevent theft from warehouses and factories which has been an increasingly pressing issue since the e-commerce business is constantly growing.

What are your main Sustainable Development Goals?

SDG11Goal 11* – Sustainable cities and communities

What are you currently looking for and what are your next steps?

MilliScan: MilliScan will enter the security sector market by selling people screening systems to different security operators. More precisely, the first customers will be government agency buildings, prisons, customs, and loss prevention customers. We are looking for investors for our pre-seed round to join us in our effort to revolutionize how security is done.
