To help our startups learn a bit more about Aziza, we held a brief interview with her.
1. Give us a short introduction about yourself (Name, position in ASUC, maybe something about your experience in Finland or current study status)
Hi! I am Aziza, a student from Hong Kong, and I am currently a master’s degree in Visual Communication Design at Aalto University. I am working as a Design Trainee in Aalto Startup Center, mainly working on visuals and marketing materials for social media and different communication channels. This is my second year in Finland, and I like it very much, especially the forests and the chocolate!
2. What is your role in Aalto Startup Center?
Being a design trainee at ASUC, I will be working with the communication team on design materials like social media posts, branding strategies, and marketing materials like posters and flyers for different incubator programs, events and startups.
3 Can you tell us a bit about your professional background? (For example, what the Master’s study is about or any previous work experience related to your role)
In my master’s study in Visual Communication Design, I am studying and working on different designs projects that cover different areas or elements of “graphic design,” like publishing, typography, or storytelling, which all are things that I really like to do. We also try to questions and defines our own practice and profession. Personally, I like working on editorial designs and 2D materials, and recently I am also learning animation and motion graphics.
4. What brought you to Aalto Startup Center originally
I am very fascinated by the startup community in Finland when I saw there is such diversity and is valued in the Finnish community. Especially in Aalto there are a lot of events regarding startups, ASUC is a good place for me to learn more about the startup environment and also do design in collaboration with different people.
5. What’s your work style?
I like working and interacting with people and getting to know their opinions because design is often done very individually. Being able to work with a team but also having personal space will be an ideal environment for me. I also like to have a plan or a list of things to do before a project and a day starts.
6. What inspires you in your work?
Being outdoor and walking definitely inspires me a lot and allows me to clear my thoughts and have new insights. I especially like being in nature or looking at landscapes. In my design process, I like to walk around and observe the city; like buildings and colours also give me inspiration.
7. What do you do in your spare time?
I like to eat, go to cafes with friends, go on hikes and sometimes go to the gym. I also like to watch movies or go take photos of the city.

All of you are super talented, and you are definitely in the right place with Aalto Startup Center. They value people and have good resources and advice for developing your business and craft. And everyone is super nice and friendly!

10. Tell us one thing about yourself that would surprise us.
I like to skateboard! (not very good at it), but super fun and has been learning it since my dad bought me one a few years ago.
